A Florida teenager was charged with first-degree murder in the death of his grandmother after he was reportedly seen dragging a large, wrapped object with feet dangling from it through the nudist community where they lived.
Brandon Machetto, 18, allegedly put his grandmother’s nude body in the back of her minivan and drove around for five hours while police responded to an alert that had been issued for 74-year-old Sylvia Rosalie Schmitt, who was reported missing from the Paradise Lakes Condominium Association in Lutz, Fla., WTSP reported.
Authorities said a deputy spotted Machetto driving on a nearby interstate and tried to pull him over. Machetto kept driving until he ended up back at the nudist community where another deputy got him to stop the vehicle.
Machetto told the deputy who pulled him over that he was “coming back to turn myself in,” according to his arrest report released on Tuesday. Pasco County Sheriff Chris Nocco told the Tampa Bay Times deputies described Machetto as expressionless.

Authorities found Schmitt’s naked body in the back of her gold Honda Odyssey — and signs of a struggle inside her house.

Local news reports said Machetto had been living with his grandmother the past several weeks, and the two allegedly argued frequently. A friend of Machetto told reporters he suffered a brain injury several years ago. Some said the two fought as Schmitt tried to get Machetto to take his medication.
Police said Machetto was accused of domestic violence against Schmitt in 2012, but the charges were dropped.
“It is obvious the grandmother was truly caring for her grandson,” Nocco told WFLA. “That domestic violence case several years ago, I believe she dropped the charges, she didn’t want to pursue it any further. It was obvious she was somebody who really cared and wanted to give a helping hand.”
Machetto is being held without bail.
